In this post, EFL Collective shares with you an economical worksheet based on a video about leisure in Britain. Throughout this lesson, we believe your students will have fun learning about British culture in general and British leisure activities in particular. They will also listen to authentic, received English.
Video Title: Leisure in Britain
Level: Elementary and Pre-intermediate Classes
The length of the video: 6:50 minutes
Worksheet: Download from here.
Suggested Procedure
Pre-viewing Stage:
The teacher has students tick the activities they expect to hear or see in the video, then watch for the first time to check their guesses. Alternatively, students can talk about their pastime activities. This way they revise a number of vocabulary items related to leisure.
While viewing Stage:
The students watch the video again and do exercises 2 and 3. For correction, the teacher can play the video with subtitles.
Post-viewing Stage:
Writing activity (option 1): The students write a paragraph about leisure in their country, talking about the top ten free time activities among different age groups. They can also compare leisure activities in Britain and their countries.
Speaking activity (Option 2): The students prepare and give talks in front of their classmates about their favourite leisure activities. Likewise, they can talk about what they like about British leisure activities.
