Suggested Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use functions related to interest, surprise, and indifference to speak about different life experiences in face-to-face/telephone conversations.


Exercise: Complete the following conversations with the correct expressions of surprise, interest or indifference, then practice with your partner.

  1. Zineb: Hello, Alesha! Why are you absent?

Alesha: Hi, honey! I'm a little bit sick. What's going on there?

Zineb: Something incredible, actually!                                  

Alesha: What! Tell me, please.                                           

Zineb: Angelina Jolie has just paid a visit to our institute this morning.

Alesha: ……………………………………………………………………….……………


2. Tom: Hey, you know what?

Lola: Yes!                                                                                               

Tom: Tomorrow's Susan's birthday.

Lola: ……………………………………………?

Tom: Look, she has sent you an invitation.

Lola: ……………………………………………..I'm not going.


3. Reda: Look, I've bought a new CD player.

Brian: ……………………………………….………………………...CD players are behind the times now.


4. Najat: Some classmates are going to participate in a math Olympiad in Colombia.
