Thanks for sharing and for the efforts made in designing the worksheet. I would love to give some instructions on how to accomplish an effective lead in to this lesson.
As a lead-in stage, I will draw a circle on the board inside of which I write Causes of dropping out of school. Then make a diagram eliciting from ss different causes. The work mode could be in groups, ss will be given 5 min. To finish the task. The rational behind the task is to activate their schemata and put them in the context of the topic at hand. It also serves as the brainstorming stage of the writing. Ss come to the board to write their answers, usually they will be short phrases like poverty or school is far, or family problems. At this stage these answers should be accepted as in a later stage they will learn to develop them in a simple sentence. (teaching writing at the level of the sentence).
Core activity stage, Ss are then given the handouts, read and check if the causes they wrote on the board are mentioned in the paragraph and if there are other causes they haven’t mentioned. This serves as reading with purpose.
Thank you so much indeed, dear Zakaria, for this interesting input!
